Community Catalyst is a leading non-profit national health advocacy organization dedicated to advancing a movement for race equity and health justice. POSITION SUMMARY
Community Catalyst recently concluded a significant five-year strategic planning process. The plan pushes the organization to focus its work on race equity and health justice, long-term vision setting and power building. The Digital Director role is critical to the success of the organization’s new strategic direction and overall organizational advancement.
For nearly 25 years, Community Catalyst has provided technical assistance and capacity building resources to hundreds of state and partner organizations across the country. As the organization moves into its next chapter - it needs a modern, digital-first engagement strategy that leverages the tremendous opportunity for a robust supporter engagement program to complement and amplify the partner engagement work.
The Digital Director will develop this strategy - and work closely with the (new) Director of Power Building and Organizing to ensure a holistic organizational engagement strategy is built and implemented across a range of campaigns, initiatives and projects.
The position is a rare opportunity to design an online engagement and content strategy for a major national organization staffed with a talented and committed team at an unique organizational inflection point.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive the development of digital engagement and content strategy across our channels to better connect with partners, supporters and donors
- Lead the creative development process that brings to life the story of our work and the people behind it
- Learn from the campaigns you have run and innovate on your approach, sharing performance metrics and lessons with the entire team
- Translate the complexities of our organization’s work into an engaging narrative that invites supporters on the journey with us
- Know our audiences better than anyone, designing engagement programs with the messages and tactics that build relationships for the long-term
- Maintain a deep knowledge of, and curiosity about, the work we do, spotting opportunities for public engagement and collaborating with our experts to communicate their work across platforms
- Understand the needs of our partners and how our team can support and amplify their work
- Manage the day-to-day operations of all our platforms, including social platforms, email and website
SUPERVISION
- Lead and champion a team of 2-3 strategists and creatives, which includes existing staff members and/or new hires
- Work collaboratively with other individual contributors across the organization, and our partners, to coordinate digital efforts as part of a greater whole
- Contribute as a member of the communications team under the supervision of the Senior Director of Communications
The Digital Director reports to the Sr. Director of Communications and is a critical leader on the communications team.

- Serve as a leader in Community Catalyst’s efforts to establish and implement race equity and health justice goals for the organization.
- Contribute to organization-wide efforts to center race equity and health justice in Community Catalyst’s work and to build a more inclusive organization.
QUALIFICATIONS/WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We want to hear from you if you believe your strengths and passion for building digital programs would help you succeed in this role, even if your past experience or skills don’t match this description perfectly.
- 8+ years working on digital programs (ideally for a non-profit, advocacy organization, campaign or agency)
- Experience developing and executing digital engagement or advocacy campaigns in an established non-profit, agency and/or political environment
- Experience developing messaging and communications strategy that engages, persuades and mobilizes supporters on behalf of a cause
- A desire to lead, build and improve on the programs and platforms that exist, communicating to leadership what’s needed and where you want to grow
- Detailed understanding of digital engagement platforms (we use EveryAction, Mailchimp and Wordpress, among others)
- Familiarity with social media management tools like Agorapulse, Sprout Social or similar
- Familiarity with work management tools and systems like Airtable, Notion or Asana
- Experience providing supervision and management
- A shared passion for creating change and advocating for health justice
BENEFITS & SALARY RANGE
- Salary Range: Annual $115,000—$125,000
