POSITION SUMMARY:
Providing consulting services to clients including hospitals, health plans and providers, state agencies, and federal contractors are among the many ways in which Community Catalyst achieves its mission. These services included facilitation, training, research and analysis that will be used to develop and implement programs to better serve members/patients, in particular beneficiaries of the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The ultimate goal of our consulting is to improve health care services and the overall health of people with complex needs, particularly those from historically excluded or underrepresented populations.
Community Catalyst is seeking an entrepreneurial, energetic, results-oriented and mission-driven individual to join the team in the position of Director, Business Development. The ideal candidate will have a passion for advancing people’s meaningful engagement in health care, together with an understanding of, and demonstrated success with, the consultative, relationship-based sales process in order to facilitate advisory opportunities with innovative health care organizations. The successful candidate will build and nurture key client and partner relationships, maintain extensive knowledge of the health care landscape and negotiate contract terms.
The Business Development Director’s work will support Community Catalyst’s mission and its continued long-term growth. The successful candidate will leverage the organization’s unique expertise and capacity to offer consultative services to assist health plans, public programs, provider groups, social services providers and others to more effectively engage people in new models of care. These services include customized technical assistance to develop care models for, and meaningful engagement of, people with complex medical and social needs.
Supervision:
The Director, Business Development will be supervised by the Senior Strategic Advisor and work closely with Finance and other organizational leadership.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Development and Planning
- Respond to RFPs, develop concept papers and proposals outlining statements of work and fee structures
- Research development opportunities and conduct outreach to potential clients
- Work with the Consulting Team, relevant Programs and the Finance and Operations (and, as needed, Communications and Development) Departments to develop proposals
- Collaborate with organizational and program leadership to ensure that consulting opportunities and proposals are strongly mission-aligned, advance the strategic plan and are consistent with organizational positioning and messaging on a range of issues
- Establish new services consistent with organizational mission and strategic direction
- Coordinate internal resources to fulfill client delivery and promote effective communication
- Steward client relationships to assure client satisfaction and future opportunities
- Coordinate with the Development department, as needed, to maximize opportunity where contacts may have potential as both clients and donors
- Identify and develop Community Catalyst’s unique services and marketing propositions
- Establish revenue-generating plan to cultivate new business expansion
Management
- Maintain CRM database, submitting regular progress reports and ensuring data accuracy
- Maintain protocols and procedures for proposal and contract review, signing and management
- Review and administration of contracts, including federal contracts and compliance with all Federal Acquisition Regulations (FARs)
- Coordinate processes with the Development and Finance departments, as appropriate, to support efficiency and alignment
- Meet regularly with Consulting Team members to monitor contract timelines and deliverables, oversee submission of final products to ensuring compliance with contracts and share lessons
- Continually improve KPIs (e.g., conversion rates, acquisition rates, retention rates)
- Prepare and present business reviews quarterly and annually for the board
- Support staff and other internal colleagues to meet customer needs
- Supervision of administrative support staff
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree plus at least 10 years relevant work experience
- 5+ years of successful sales and business development experience
- Federal and other public sector contracting experience
- Project management and strategy development expertise
- Demonstrated commitment to social justice, race equity and social entrepreneurship
- Excellent customer interface skills – executive presence, with the ability to establish credibility with clients deliver presentations and facilitate meetings
- Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, respond to tight timelines, attention to detail and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Significant degree of self-motivation, direction, reliability, honesty, and integrity
- Proven skills in team-building, relationship development and collaboration
- Exceptional writing skills, including the ability to convey complex information in a persuasive and easy to understand manner
- Ability to travel within the U.S.
- CRM experience, managing client data and forecasting sales opportunities
Preferred
- Significant experience in or with health care organizations
- Experience working in a multicultural environment
- Bilingual/bicultural background
- Contracting Officer or representative certification or experience
- Consulting experience

BENEFITS & SALARY
- Salary Range: $110,000 - $123,000
