POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing different SCHAP related projects as opportunities and needs arise. This management includes leading teams to execute project proposals, manage contractors and consultants, build out appropriate technical assistance models, craft and execute project-related subgranting, and engage in project evaluation. This role will also help manage relationships with different donors, as needed. The Project Manager will provide technical assistance to state and local partners associated with relevant projects in their portfolio. This position will supervise 1-2 staff on the team affiliated with relevant projects. 

 

Supervision:

The Project Manager is supervised by the Associate Director, State and Communities Health Advocacy Program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee the management of 2-3 different SCHAP grant-funded initiatives, which may include incubating new project ideas, writing proposals and budgets, developing project teams, implementing new/renewed projects, and ensuring cross-programmatic integration of new projects with existing organizational needs and opportunities;
• Work with organization’s Finance and Development teams to manage the budgets for the above-mentioned grant-funded initiatives;
• Lead the relevant teams, which are building out supporting the work of these initiatives;
• Monitor project impacts by tracking and reporting on grant project performance measures and project accomplishments;
• Oversee communications to project(s) donors to ensure timely updates and relationship building;
  • Manage grant deliverables for the relevant grant(s), including:
    • Write reports and proposals;
    • Develop grant making strategy and oversee grants to local, state partners and national partners
    • Provide, with relevant team members, communications, strategic guidance, and technical assistance to grantees; and
    • Manage relationships with relevant contractors or consultants.

• In coordination with other project staff, maintain regular communication with collaborating national partner organizations, and carry out communications activities to ensure the visibility of the project;
• Provide technical assistance and support to a portfolio of local/state advocacy organizations;
• Collaborate closely with staff including State Advocacy Managers, Policy Analysts and Program Associates to ensure strategic support is provided to project subgrantees;
• Guide state-based campaigns with assistance focused on policy, communications, coalition-building and stakeholder and grassroots engagement;
• Coordinate development of central campaign tools, policy briefs, and other resources based on grantee needs and priorities;
• Facilitate subgrantee learning communit(ies);
• Track federal, state and local policy developments in subgrantee focus areas in order to offer strategic guidance;
• Coordinate closely with related Community Catalyst programs to assure maximum synergy and learning, including relevant members of Senior Management;
• Supervise 1-2 relevant project staff; and
• Perform other duties as necessary to achieve the goals of the project(s).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Bachelor’s degree plus at least 4 years relevant work experience, or 6 relevant work experience.
• Commitment to social justice and experience in social change activism such as: legislative advocacy or political/policy issue campaigns; community organizing; working with coalitions and stakeholders; and/or implementing communications strategies
• Proven campaign and organizing skills
• Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the political process and its interface with health policy
• Ability to provide strategic direction and guidance to project and exercise strategic political judgement
• Proven written and verbal communications skills, including experience with public speaking, training, facilitating, and/or coaching. Ability to convey complex information in writing and speaking so that it is easily understood by the public
• Strong organizational skills, including an ability to manage several projects at once and respond to tight timelinesHighly-developed attention to detail, with the ability to manage effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with working independently in a collaborative team environment
