Lois Uttley

Senior Advisor , Hospital Equity and Accountability Project

Lois Uttley, MPP is Senior Advisor for the Hospital Equity and Accountability Project. Prior to this position, she was the Program Director for Community Catalyst Women's Health Program. She is the Co-founder of Raising Women’s Voices for the Health Care We Need. She has been active in women’s health and LGBTQ health advocacy and policy for more than 30 years, working on the local, state and national levels. She is a frequent speaker at national and state conferences and has authored numerous reports and articles. Based in Manhattan, Lois serves on the steering committee of the statewide Health Care for All New York coalition and is co-chair of its LGBT Task Force.

Previously, she was Founder and Director of the MergerWatch Project, Vice President of Family Planning Advocates of NYS, Director of Public Affairs for the NYS Department of Health and an award-winning reporter and editor covering New York State government for the Albany Times Union. She earned a Master’s in Public Affairs and Policy from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University at Albany and teaches in the Master’s in Health Advocacy Program at Sarah Lawrence College.

She has been President of the Public Health Association of NYC and Chair of the national Action Board of the American Public Health Association (APHA) and was a National Urban Fellow from 1979-80. She has been honored by the Ms. Foundation for Women with its Gloria Award and by APHA’s Sexual and Reproductive Health Section with its Felicia Stewart Advocacy Award.
