(BOSTON, MA) – Though election results are not yet final, it’s clear voters delivered broad support for ballot initiatives and candidates that will increase access to health care. This is a mandate to Congress and the Biden administration to champion policies that advance health care access, affordability and quality. So far, the results are a rebuke of the continued attacks by Republican leadership to ban abortion, repeal the Affordable Care Act, dismantle the Medicaid program and more.
Statement from Emily Stewart, executive director of Community Catalyst:
“It’s clear that voters across the country chose a commitment to equitable access to affordable health coverage and care. Voters showed up to protect abortion access, expand the Medicaid program, relieve medical debt and work to ensure equitable health care for all.
“The new Congress and Biden administration must heed the will of the majority of voters and take every action possible to promote health equity. This must include taking action to provide relief and protection from medical debt, ensure access to safe abortion, lower health care costs and dismantle systemic racism in the health system. Alongside our coalition partners, Community Catalyst is focused on ensuring policymakers are accountable to the communities they represent and implement policies that advance health equity, including making sure everyone can access affordable, quality care. No matter who controls Congress, Community Catalyst will never back down from fighting for our vision of the future: a country where everyone has what they need to be healthy and thrive.”
