MMCO Releases 2009 State Profiles of Dual Eligibles
The Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office recently released 2009 state profiles of Medicare-Medicaid enrollees. Data is provided in both an overview national profile, as well as two-page profiles for each state, which serve as useful quick reference documents on higher-level state specific statistics.
MedPAC Releases 2015 Data Book on Healthcare Spending
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) released its 2015 data book on health care spending and the Medicare program. The MedPAC Data Book provides information on national health care and Medicare spending as well as Medicare beneficiary demographics, dual-eligible beneficiaries, quality of care in the Medicare program and information on different provider settings.
New Issue Brief from Eldercare Workforce Alliance on Caring for Older Adults
The latest issue brief by the Eldercare Workforce Alliance highlights the following key points:
- the current and projected population over the age of 65 will increase by almost 77 percent by 2030
- an estimated 70 percent to 80 percent of the paid hands-on care for older adults or those living with disabilities or other chronic conditions is provided by direct care workers
- there is a serious shortage in the number of geriatricians
- family caregivers – all 42.1 million of them nationally – provided more than 40.3 billion hours of unpaid care in 2009
